Wernicke's area
The area of the brain located in the posterior part of the left hemisphere, which has been identified as Brodmann area 22. It is a critical language region, thus damage to Wernicke's area results in a high level of language impairment and is usually diagnosed as an aphasia sub-type.
Working Memory
Working Memory, (Baddeley and Hitch, 1974) is a non-unitary model of Short Term Memory composed of a phonological loop, visuo-spatial sketchpad, central executive, and episodic buffer. It is a limited and transient storage space for new information that can hold up to 5-8 items at a time. Working Memory manipulates items being used and either passes it on to Long Term Memory, or lets it be replaced by new incoming information. Working Memory is responsible for processes such as problem-solving, reasoning, and comprehension.
